Portrait Sessions: What to Expect
|
Is a consultation visit necessary prior to scheduling the photo session?
A consultation visit prior to the photo session is not necessary, unless you would prefer to have one.
Where will the photographs be taken?
Formal portraits will be taken at my studio. The location of environmental portraits can be anywhere in the general
Beaver Dam area. It can be a park, school, farm, etc. Environmental portraits are typically outdoor photographs and
should be taken early morning or early evening when lighting conditions are optimum (weather dependent).
Are there props available for me to chose from?
In order to keep your costs at a minimum I do not have props. You are welcome to bring your own props with you at
no additional charge.
What type of clothing should I wear?
Neutral colors work best. Long sleeve blouses and shirts are highly recommended. For basic sessions three
changes of clothing are suggested. For more complex sessions more changes of clothing may be necessary in
order to provide a variety of options.
Should I wear makeup?
A little makeup is fine, but don't go overboard particularly with eye shadow. Heavy tanning before you
photo-session is not recommended.
What if I wear eye glasses?
Eye glasses can cause glare from studio lights. Tinted glass that lighten indoors can also be troublesome . If you
wear eyeglasses, it is suggested you borrow a pair of frames (without lenses) from your optometrist.
Can I bring a friend along?
Yes! Friends and/or parents are encouraged to come along and will enhance your experience.
What if I have a pose that I particularly like?
I will work closely with you in an attempt to provide you with a particular pose.
What if I want changes or additions to the portrait package?
Just ask. This is your photo-session. Modifications to the package are easily made.
The basics: What should I bring?
Bring an adequate number of changes of clothing, personal items such as a hair brush, makeup, props, etc.
Can I bring a pet?
Small pets are OK. Please bring someone along to attend to the pet when it is not being photographed. I ask that
you notify me in advance about your interest in bringing a pet to the photo-session.
When is payment expected?
There is a retainer equal to 50% of the portrait package price. This needs to be paid when the original appointment
is made. The balance is due upon delivery of the completed order.
What if I have questions or am confused about the photo-session?
If you have any questions or concerns no matter how insignificant they appear to you, please call. Good
communication is important.
When should I schedule my appointment?
Professional labs get very busy in the fall. For senior portraits please schedule your appointment for early summer.
Other portrait sessions can be scheduled at any time.
How long will the session last?
A basic session typically lasts about an hour. For complex sessions that include environmental portraits, plan on a
minimum of an hour and a half. Your session will not end until we have accomplished our goal of obtaining a good
variety of images for you to choose from. I allow plenty of time between appointments so you are not rushed.
You may be slightly apprehensive about being photographed. This is simply human nature. Based on my experience, once the session begins, you will quickly become quite comfortable in front of "the lights". I will strive to make the portrait session an enjoyable experience for you. Just be prepared to be creative and have fun!
